A question that every person must ask is, “How can I, a guilty sinner, escape the punishing wrath of God?”. This question is not unique to Christians, and it knows no geographical or political boundary. It is at the heart of every conscious son and daughter of Adam.
Various religions offer an answer, requiring adherents to do this or go there. Gurus invite followers into mystical experiences and withdrawal from reality. Many Americans today simply distract themselves with empty pleasures, refusing to admit their own mortality.
One day, you will stand before the King of glory. God scrutinizes every thought, word, and deed of yours even now. Your moral and spiritual depravity is on full display, and you have nothing with which to cover yourself. Unless, of course, you wear the righteous covering of someone else.
Oh, what joy, comfort, peace, assurance, and wonder fills the heart of the one who knows that Christ is his or her righteousness! Jesus is righteous, but He was counted guilty. You are guilty, but you may be counted righteous for Christ’s sake.
This is the meaning of Sola Fide.
